Has anyone ever imagined what it might be like to live in an upside-down house? No? Ok, it’s a bit of an odd one, but in Sydney, there is an actual house that has been flipped all the way onto its roof with the interior being completely upside down! I’ve never seen anything like it, not in person anyway, so let’s go have a look!

House Down Under is Australia’s first inverted house attraction taking the country by storm! Their fun and quirky upside-down houses have popped up all around the country, including Melbourne, Sydney, the Gold Coast, and soon Adelaide. The houses are fun for the whole family and are a great photo opportunity for those wanting to switch up their shots.
We had to book for this experience, 19 dollars for each person. Yes, I thought that was a little steep to look at a house that had been flipped upside down but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt before I start judging. So we got in the car and left for Sydney. Honestly, a long drive with nothing but my music playing was what I really needed at the time. Somewhere to go with nothing but a fun day planned and an excuse to be goofy. We arrived at the Rouse Hill Town Centre, where we first laid our eyes on the House Down Under, and those naïve little words were spoken. “It’s so small!”

When I heard about this house, I was expecting it to be much, much bigger. But honestly, I think it being smaller was what made the whole experience even better. It was more personal, more quirky, and we could take more photos without having to manoeuvre around other people. The design of the house was super colourful, fun and wacky, even without the whole upside-down element. Everything was well planned out so that every photo you took would turn out looking incredibly bizarre, leaving people to wonder how you did it. There was also a staff member inside the house to help take photos for you, even offering a few pose suggestions for some cool flipped shots. I feel like I had a bit too much fun with these photos. Although, is there such a thing as too much fun?

I found it a little funny that some people feel a little dizzy or sick when they step into the house, and we were given the rundown of the emergency exits before being let in. I guess this was a little bit of karma biting me in the behind because as soon as I stepped inside, I was thrown by everything being flipped. It’s an odd feeling to describe. Almost as if you’re on one of those giant wheels of fortune and you’re just spinning in slow motion. But in a fun way?

It probably wasn’t until we walked out of the house and were heading home that I realised how much fun we’d had. I was going through all the photos we took, flipping them so that I was in fact the one that was upside down in the picture. The photos turned out so well, and I could see how happy I was in all of them! If you love taking photos, or just genuinely love being goofy with your friends and family, House Down Under is definitely worth the price and trip!
